Performance Art = Rock and Roll + Fine Art

In this photo taken on July 7, 2010, Keith "Scramble" Campbell guest curator for the Denny Dent exhibit at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities talks about Dent's style next to Dent's painting of Jimi Hendrix during an interview at the center in Arvada, Colo. Billed as the two-fisted art attack, painter Denny Dent made his name creating quick-draw portraits to live music, sometimes before thousands of concertgoers. A retrospective of Dent's career "Two-Fisted Art Attack: Denny Dent Retrospective" will run through Aug. 29 at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities in Arvada, Colo. (AP Photo/Ed Andrieski)

Most of have seen the You Tube performances of someone creating giant portraits of rock and roll celebrities usually to rock music at an incredibly fast pace. We are all surprised to see random strokes turned into works of art. According to an article in the Canadian Press, Rock’s Rembrandt: Denny Dent, known as the 2-fisted art attack, gets own exhibit by Catherine Tsai (CP) ,  Denny Dent was the first to do this and get mass recognition for it. To learn more about him, you can go to www.dennydent.com.

The Artists Lofts point of view on this type of art is that the two media: rock and roll plus painting definitely integrate into something very entertaining. If you have never viewed one of these performances we highly recommend spending a little time on YouTube and watching one.  Having an exhibit of the “founder” of this genre is a great idea. We wonder what has happened to the paintings that he did during the shows.  The article above mentions that some of his studio paintings will be shown and that his paintings went for $40,000 but there is no mention where those paintings ended up. No mention of the collectors that currently own them or if they are on display somewhere in a public collection.

Well if you get a chance to see this  exhibit give a shout out and let us know how it went.
