Artwork returned to descendants of original owners:Nazis looted paintings from gallery

Three paintings at California’s Hearst Castle which were looted by the Nazis from a Jewish couple who later died in the Holocaust are to be returned to their family, it was confirmed Thursday.

A news release said neither the parks authority nor the Hearst family had been aware of the origins of the paintings, which were seized from Jakob and Rosa Oppenheimer’s Berlin art gallery in 1935 and forcibly sold.
