The Harland Hand Memorial Garden in El Cerrito California, across the bay from San Francisco, is currently not open to the public. Harland Hand [1922-1998], inspired by the principles of fine art and rock formations in the High Sierra, designed this hillside garden with breathtaking views of San Francisco Bay. Using concrete, curving lines and dramatic color combinations, Hand created an emotionally evocative space that houses an extraordinary plant collection.
Only a few elite Artists have been invited to paint the Harland Hand Memorial Garden. Some work “en plein air” while others take photographs, then work in their studios.
Elaine Frenett was invited to join several, very professional and select artists, to paint this garden, the Harland Hand Garden in El Cerrito, CA. For a year, each month they would all go paint there on site in the garden.
