Is it a good investment to buy pieces from new artists?

Many emerging artists are waiting to be discovered and become well-known over time. There are two types of new artists; the artist who has been formally trained and the self taught artist.  As far as the value of the investment, whether the artist is formally trained or not has little importance.

Where is a good place to find quality art by emerging artists?  You can look into sales held by the local art centers, art galleries, and even restaurants and hospitals for quality art.  Online there are a myriad of places to find good art. When you read about an artist online or see their work at an art show, you can usually do additional research about the artist by googling their name. eBay is also a great place to find great art, believe it or not. There is lots of bad art, but if you do your research you can find emerging artists and skilled artists on ebay selling their work. Many artists are choosing to self represent as that gives them the ability to sell their work for less and make it accesible to people who could not normally afford great art.
