Jerry Hall Selling Her Art Investment

From:  The Belfast Telegraph

A collection of artwork owned by supermodel Jerry Hall fetched more than £2.4 million at auction in London, Sotheby’s said.

The 14 works, by artists including Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst and Frank Auerbach, reflect Hall’s career and family life.

The piece which attracted the most attention was Lucian Freud’s oil on canvas Eight Months Gone.

It depicts a naked Jerry reclining while eight months’ pregnant with Gabriel – her fourth child with Rolling Stones frontman and former husband Mick Jagger. It was painted after Freud met her at a dinner party. It sold for £601,250, nearly twice its estimate of £300,000 to £400,000.

Jerry said: “When I was eight months pregnant with Gabriel, I sat next to Lucian Freud at dinner. He asked if he could paint me and wanted me to start the next day.

“I was flattered to be asked in my condition to model for such a great artist. I accepted and posed three times a week until I went into labour.

“It was so exhilarating to be appreciated for being natural and hugely pregnant. That was a great gift that Lucian gave me.”

The collection “exceeded expectations” when it was auctioned at Sotheby’s in London. The works were estimated to sell for £1.5 million but made £2,489,775 over two Contemporary Arts sales at the auctioneers.

Jerry said the sale was about “letting go of the past”. “At a certain age you just want to get rid of things,” she said.

“It’s good to be in the moment and change, I’m not afraid of change.”
